The Aerie at Narrabundah
The Aerie is a premium boutique retirement village in Narrabundah, one of Canberra’s best suburbs. Located on Goyder Street, the village benefits from the spectacular avenues of trees that characterise the area, as well as an elevated site with impressive views and boundaries bordering the Capital Golf Course.
The sloped site delivered some challenges but many opportunities, with use of double storey and under and over villa product, all with large alfresco balconies, taking advantage of the views and aspect. A similar opportunity was taken with the clubhouse, facing onto a stand of retained, mature native vegetation. A street edge verandah creating a welcoming arrival point and a sense of focus for the village centre, with elevated balconies overlooking the views and existing vegetation provide protected areas for village functions. The area below this opens onto a village street, with direct access to pool, gym and activities studio.
The style of the village echoes the ‘best of Canberra’, the timeless early style adopted in major public buildings that sit so well in this ‘Garden City’, including pitched roofs, detailed render treatments highlighting classic brick facades and indoor outdoor spaces including strongly expressed verandahs, porches and balconies. A carefully detailed entry area with wrought iron gates and feature lighting completes the village.
