Woodlands Golf Club
The Woodlands Golf Club clubhouse was rebuilt in the 1920s to the design of noted architect Edward Billson. The design reflects Billson's long association with the architect Walter Burley Griffin, an advocate of the American Prairie style. This is evident in the low, horizontal proportions of the building, and the detailing of parts of the interior.
However over the years the building had become tired, and the relationship of the building to the surrounding Golf Course reflected earlier attitudes to Golf Club usage.
Demaine Partnership proposed a radical overhaul of the building configuration, opening the northern frontage of the building with a spacious terrace that acts as a departure and arrival point for access to the course, an outdoor dining area and an elevated platform giving 180 degree views across the impressive setting. Existing club store and locker room areas were relocated underneath the building, while a new pro-shop, remodeled dining room with new flexible function area, a new porte cochere entry and new service areas including a commercial kitchen, complete the project.
