Kingston Heath Golf Club
Kingston Heath Golf Club possesses one of Australia’s outstanding courses. The original clubhouse embodies many layers of change, accumulated since the clubhouse was established in the early 20th century. It was decided to work with and build upon this rich heritage.
The new complex features new locker rooms, proshop and clubstore. Members entering and leaving the course have direct access to these facilities from a central landscaped courtyard, bordered by covered arcades and, overlooked by an outdoor dining area, leading directly to the spike bar. The striking exposed trussed roofs that were such a feature of the original ladies and men’s locker rooms were retained, and became a feature of the new spike bar and the new Heath Room (club board room).
The dining areas are enhanced by the provision of a new flexible function room, all serviced by a state of the art kitchen facility and new service areas.
Importantly the clubhouse is provided with a new porte cochere entry on the carpark side of the building replacing the original access point on the course frontage. This allows more convenient access but also permitted the elimination of a roadway that separated the lounge, dining and bar frontages from the course. The golf course now sweeps uninterrupted up to the building to the edge of a wide new verandah, giving spectacular views onto the course.
The clubhouse was completed in time for the Australian Masters Golf Championship, a major tournament which saw the return of Tiger Woods to Australia for first time in more than a decade. The clubhouse provided a perfect setting for members and VIPs to enjoy a very successful tournament, won by Tiger Woods by 2 shots.
