42 Washington Street, Toorak
42 Washington Street backs a premier Toorak location with a contemporary but timeless building that provides for 5 spacious apartments including a full floor penthouse. Taking advantage of the northern orientation, the full front of the building is taken up with a spacious alfresco loggia, large enough for entertaining and seamlessly integrated with the full width living areas behind. The L shaped form of the block facilitates the creation of a pair of courtyard apartments at the rear, shaped around private courtyards and terraces.
The loggia concept drives the external expression of the building with tall stone columns separated by decorative iron spandrel panels and iron pergolas protecting the penthouse terrace areas.
Internally, the spaces are informed by a seamless connection to the protected outdoor areas, but also use elements such as black steel glazed screens and floating fireplace pillars to articulate the space. The classical proportions are reinforced by elegant full height doors and deep, flush fitting skirtings, with a monochromatic palette that contrasts light walls with natural timber, stone and bronze finishes.
