Narrabundah Retirement Village

A steep site is not typically a preferred configuration for a retirement community, but a zoning that limited development options to retirement development, combined with an ideal location next to a golf course in a well regarded suburb, indicated that this was a challenge to be overcome.

The layout uses ‘under and over’ product to deal with the site fall, and combined with innovative use of landscape and pathways, accessibility issues were successfully addressed. The clubhouse is equally unusual, with the fall creating a deep undercroft area that is used as an art studio and maintenance facilities. The building is sited to take advantage of treetop views into adjoining retained mature native vegetation.  A wide, sheltered verandah with BBQ facilities and generous seating areas opening off the dining and lounge areas takes further advantage of this aspect.
