Sorrento Golf Club
Sorrento Golf Club has a long and proud history dating from the late nineteenth century, and the first purpose built clubhouse still survives, much altered, on the site. The course, located between Victoria’s most prestigious seaside resort towns of Sorrento and Portsea, is spectacular but the clubhouse had become dysfunctional, with the members bar and members main function spaces on different levels, and inadequate locker and storage spaces.
The works integrate the bar and function spaces onto one level, simultaneously creating an integrated building composition that seamlessly connects the historic southern end of the club to a new northern two storey wing using a new full width covered terrace. This is balanced by a spacious indoor-outdoor balcony that functions as a wintergarden in the colder periods of the year. The changes allowed for an increased in locker and buggy storage areas, upgrades to the proshop and easier access to all parts of the clubhouse from the existing carparking areas. The design develops the existing character of the building, restoring heritage elements and creating a gracious and impressive presence in timber and stone, to the golf course.
