Wattletree Road, East Malvern

333 Wattletree Road is an apartment building integrated into an area noted more for large, single freestanding Edwardian and 1920s villas. The site was originally occupied by a run down Arts and Crafts attic villa, a sizeable home constructed for a local doctor and his large family. The building set a precedent for a building of significant scale in the area, and the new development makes reference to this earlier structure in adopting a two storey attic villa form, with the penthouse level integrated into the roof element.

Careful selection of materials also makes reference to the Arts and Crafts design tradition, with a fine slate roof, expressed rafter tails, finely detailed balconies and façade pilasters, roughcast render, and brickwork to the lower façade laid in garden wall bond.
