KEW GOLF
CLUB
The work at Kew Golf Club was an
intervention designed to give new life to a clubhouse designed by
Demaine Partnership in the 1970s.
The Club has an optimal layout
that exploits the existing fall on the land, with the bar and
lounge areas at the upper level with direct access from the porte
cochere and carparking areas, and the locker rooms below opening
directly to the course. This convenient layout, a legacy of Demaine
Partnership's original design, had served the club well. However
increasing demand for informal bar and dining areas, increased
membership demands required that the locker rooms be expanded and
an external dining and barbeque area be added. This was achieved
with a new balcony being added to the course front of the building,
and a tension fabric shade sail being added over a new outdoor
terrace. The new areas complement the original style of the club,
derived from the design language of American architect Frank Lloyd
Wright.
