22-26
MILLSWYN STREET, SOUTH YARRA
22-26 Millswyn Street calls on an
environmental characteristic common to both Italy and Australia: a
mild climate that encourages maximum enjoyment of an alfresco
lifestyle. To this end the development features an element
well known in the Italian design lexicon: the loggia.
Originally developed as a living space in both urban palazzos and
rural villas, the loggia is an enclosed colonnaded living
space. In this case, the loggias are protected by sliding
timber plantation shutters and warmed in autumn and winter by
outdoor fireplaces. The development contains only three full
floor apartments, containing 3 bedrooms, study and library spaces,
large gallery spaces for display of artwork, a large living area
flowing onto the loggia area, and generous garden courtyards to the
ground floor residence.
An elegant and understated façade
features travertine columns, fine wrought ironwork and polish oak
and bevelled glass entry doors.
This development continues the
concepts first introduced at 155 Domain Road and extends them in a
distinctly Italian design direction.
