RMIT SCHOOL
OF BUSINESS
Demaine assisted in transforming
a drab 1960s office building into a setting befitting the dynamic
RMIT School of Business. Clever handling of space and materials
cost effectively improved environmental quality nd space available
for academic programs and facility presentation.
Level 3 of the RMIT Business
School project contained diverse requirements: a reception,
academic offices, post graduate and undergraduate computer lab, a
trading room, discussion and tutorial rooms and a Prayer room
servicing one of the large religious groups within the
University.
The plan reflects a logical
understanding of the appropriate placement of these functions, from
the sinuous wall screening the post graduate computer area and
creating a pathway to the discretely located Prayer Room, to thick
walls shielding both the academic offices and trading
room.

This study area combines a lounge
area with curvilinear computer workstations, all shielded from
ciculation areas by a translucent curved glass curtain. The relaxed
layout of computer workstations provides visual interest while also
giving each of the users within the area a sense of personal study
space.
