FURNITURE INTEGRATING
TECHNOLOGY
FIT (Furniture Integrating Technology) is a system developed by
Michael Jeffreson, Design Director of Demaine Partnership, to allow
flexible fitout of rooms. The system is based on a simple premise:
that wiring that may become obselete in 10 years should not be
rigidly built into walls intended to last 100 years. Consequently,
all wiring is located in a patented, concealed cornice mounted
ducting system and then located within the furniture elements of
the space. Every element of the interior fitout, even wiring for
power, data and lighting, is demountable and relocatable using
simple tools. Consequently a space using the system is futureproof,
able to be updated to current technology at any time.
The system has a range of other advantages:
ESD (Environmentally sustainable design)
All interior fitout components are demountable, and therefore
recyclable and reusable. Interior walls can be constructed of high
thermal mass materials without concerns about accommodation of
wiring.
Investors
All FIT components, from cabinetwork to wiring, is demountable.
This has obvious implications for depreciation schedules.
Investment properties can be set up in a number of ways to suit
varying tenant requirements. This includes apartments which can be
set up with minimal facilities for rental, and later upgraded for
sale to owner occupants.
Adaptablity
Interiors can be adapted to varying levels of ability. This is
particularly relevant in aged care facilities and to facilitate
ageing in place policies.
Compatibility
The FIT cornice is designed to accept softwiring solutions such
as NHP's WAGO Winstar
softwiring system. The cornice accepts DIN rails for mounting of
standard automation system, including relays, dimmers and circuit
breakers.
